Mangled Wurzels To Give Free Show at Hayling Scarecrow Awards

This year the Scarecrow Festival Awards will be presented to a background of very appropriate countryside music from top “Scrumpy and Western” tribute band, The Mangledwurzels who will be performing in a free concert at Eastoke Corner on Sunday August 5th between 2 and 5pm. In the event of heavy rain the event will be held in The Lifeboat Inn across the road from the Plaza.

The 2012 Hayling Island Scarecrow Festival has an Olympic theme and will feature sporting Scarecrows on display across Hayling Island between Saturday July 28th and Sunday August 12th. Trail Sheets which help you find the Scarecrows, are on sale at locations across Hayling during the Festival.

Marie Telford, who chairs the Scarecrow Festival Committee will present the awards during the interval in the Mangledwurzels show. The winning entries in the following categories will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and their cash prizes of £100, £75, £50 for first second and third places in each of the 2012 Award categories.

The single People’s Choice Award will be announced after the Scarecrow Festival ends on Sunday 12th August, you can vote for this using Ballot Forms in the Scarecrow Trail Sheet.

The Mangledwurzles are a three-piece Scrumpy & Western band based in Somerset writing and performing in the style of Adge Cutler and The Wurzels. Formed in early 2005, the band has established themselves across the West Country with their highly entertaining live performances blending classic Wurzels songs with self-penned original compositions and pop standards 'Mangled' in true Wurzels tradition.

Come along and join in to old favourites such as (I’ve Got a Brand New) Combine Harvester, I’m a Cider Drinker, I Can Drive A Tractor and many more and you will also find out who has won the 2012 Scarecrow Awards!

2012 Festival Theme is --------Sport!!!

The 2012 Hayling Scarecrow Festival this year will have sport as the theme!

The Festival will take place between Saturday July 28th and Sunday 12th August.

For the first time since the Festival stated, the winning and runner up Scarecrows in each category will this year win cash prizes as follows •

First place £100 • Second place £75 • Third place £50

The winners will be announced at a special Playing On The Plaza event at Eastoke Corner on Sunday August 5th

Chair of the Scarecrow Festival organising committee Marie Telford said “This will be the sixth year that we have held the Festival and we hope to attract a record entry tempted by the promise of cash prizes and a topical sporting theme.”

There won’t be a Scarecrow Festival in 2013 to allow scarecrow makers and the organising committee to have a break from their labours.

Entry Forms will be available at the end of May from the usual pick up points
